Employment Coordinator

In Fall 2010, Farmer's Foods opened a new store in Hopewell, Virginia   A Farmer's Foods consultant contacted the School Board Office to partner with the high school and adult education to employ students.  I was given the responsibility of referring students to Farmer's Foods for employment.

To prepare the students to properly represent the school division, the referral process was organized as follows:
1.   Students were informed of the opportunity via the morning announcements.
2.   Interested students attended a job interview prep session, where they received interview skills training and completed an application.  This provided students experience with an employment-like application and served as a record of students who were referred to Farmers' Foods for employment.
3.   Students who attended the prep sessions were given a name card, identifying them as an “official” referral from the high school.  Per Farmer’s Foods, these referrals would be given preferential consideration during the interview process.

Pictured to the right is the referral application the students completed.  Pictured below is e-mail communication between the Farmer's Foods consultant and me.

Classroom Partner
Hopewell-Prince George Chamber of Commerce
JOBS Program

The JOBS Program is a partnership between the  Hopewell-Prince George Chamber and the Hopewell and Prince George Public School Systems.  Eighth and ninth graders in both school divisions receive employability skills training in preparation to work summer jobs offered by community and business partners.

I began working with the JOBS Program shortly after its inception.  My duties were informal, primarily vision casting with Mrs. Becky McDonough, the Executive Director of the HPG Chamber.  One of the documents below is a letter (October 2007) Mrs. McDonough asked me to write in support of the JOBS Program.

After beginning my formal relationship with the JOBS Program, I have served as a Classroom Partner (2008-09, 2009-10, and 2010-11).  As Classroom Partner, I attend and participate in JOBS Program Board meetings and coordinate the JOBS  Program at Hopewell High School.  My primary role is as liasion between the Chamber and Hopewell High School JOBS Program students and parents.  The second document below is "Tips for Parents," information I compiled to assist Hopewell and Prince George parents in preparing their children for college and career.   To further assist parents, I used portaportal.com to bookmark the resources listed in "Tips for Parents."   Here is a link to the portaportal site:  http://guest.portaportal.com/jobs_program

Fine Arts Supporter
Hopewell High School Choral Program

Due to my love for fine arts and amatuer video production, I was asked to produce a farewell video featuring Class of 2011 Show Choir students.

Career Day Speaker
Carter G. Woodson Middle School and Patrick Copeland Elementary School

I have served as a Career Day Speaker for DuPont Elementary School (Spring 2011), Patrick Copeland Elementary School (Spring 2010), and Carter G. Woodson Middle School (Spring 2008).  Below is an FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) promotional video I prepared for Career Day (Spring 2008) at Carter G. Woodson Middle School.

Life Skills Department Holiday Events

Whenever the Life Skills Department has an event, the entire school is inspired by the success of the students and the commitment of the teachers and instructional assistants.  As a tribute to the teachers, assistants, and students, I wanted to share the warmth and joy of the Life Skills Department. For Holiday Seasons 2008 and 2009, I produced videos to share with the Hopewell High School Family.

2008 Mock Election

The teamwork and collaboration often exhibited by Hopewell High School faculty and students is a strength of our school.  I produced this video to recognize the contributions of faculty and students during the 2008 Mock Election.

Administrative Professionals Week

In recognition of Administrative Professionals Week, my office administration students were responsible for recognizing Hopewell High School's administrative professionals.  Students worked together to desktop publish cards, which were given to  each administrative professional.  The week culminated with a reception in honor of the office administration students and Hopewell High School's administrative professionals  (Spring 2008 and Spring 2011).  Prior to the Spring 2011 reception, administrative professionals and guest speakers Melissa Lawrence (Appomattox Regional Library) and Audrey Simmons (Joint Logistics Managers, Inc.) led a round table discussion with the students.
